We reopened its Championship Course on October 1st, after renovating all 18 greens.
The four-month project returned the greens to their original size and transitioned the turf to Tiff Eagle bermudagrass. In addition, the irrigation system was updated and sand was added to the greenside bunkers. There were also enhancements to improve the cart paths.
We are thrilled to unveil the Championship Course’s new and improved putting surfaces. This was the first greens renovation since the course was built in 1971 and the increase in size will allow for new and exciting pin placements. The Tif-Eagle grass used on the greens are an ultra-dwarf bermudagrass, and will provide some of the best playing surfaces in Southeast Florida.
These renovations were the first projects in an aggressive renovation program which includes the addition of a 107-room Fairfield Inn, new clubhouse, and new cart barn, which are scheduled to be completed by early 2020.
Colony West is getting a facelift! We are in the process of a major renovation. First, this summer, we renovated all 18 greens, including the practice Green on the Championship Course. The course was closed all summer and re-opened on October 1st to rave reviews. In addition, all of the Greenside Bunkers have been renovated and filled with new sand. Come out and play to see how great the course looks.
Next, the Clubhouse will be torn down and replaced with a 107 room Fairfield Inn and Suites. The hotel is expected to be in open for business in the Fall of 2019. Pro Shop operations will be moving into a temporary trailer, located next to the putting green, beginning late next week.
In addition, the Cart Barn will be taken down to make room for an 11,000 square foot state of the art clubhouse that can accommodate banquets and meetings of up to 250 people. Of course the Clubhouse will house a great restaurant that is open to the public, golfers and hotel guests alike. Our new pro Shop will be there, too, stocked with everything you need to have a great round. The Clubhouse will be open for business on or about February 1, 2020.
A new cart barn will be built behind the new clubhouse location and will be operational by March 2019.
Finally, we are currently in the middle of a lake expansion project at #10, moving the material to #18 tee and fairway. The north parking lots, in the front and next to the cart barn are being removed to run new utility (power, water, and sewer) for the new hotel, clubhouse and cart barn. Parking is limited to the front south lot and the grass area south of the driveway.
It certainly is an exciting time for the team at Colony West, the City of Tamarac and Billy Casper Golf! Come out and see what everyone is talking about.
